Workshops for partners

Hackney Migrant Centre
Since 2022, we have planned and facilitated creative workshops for the Hackney Migrant Centre’s community days and events. Our sessions have gone from strength to strength, building beautiful connections between our team and the community, via the practice of craft and sewing.
Our craft projects have included the making and decoration of; tote bags, photo frames, purses, papier mache eggs, Christmas tree garlands and jewellery too.
We have observed how much participants appreciate making things that they can use and take home afterwards. Their sewing skills are often advanced as they have been taught in their home countries “to make do and mend” and many grew up sewing.

“I never thought I was creative, but I like these sessions because I always try new things and I realise I can make art... " Craft workshop participant
“It’s quite incredible how uplifting these sessions are, our service users are not only making new friends but are also learning new skills and becoming more confident in their abilities. One of the returning participants requested that we have MamaSuze sessions every day.” Charlotte Buckley, Director, HMC
“Sometimes my stitches are good. Sometimes they are bad. Like this life really…” Sewing workshop participant
We also support HMC with their community parties by providing arts and crafts tables and movement and dance sessions.

LUNA project at The
Feedback Theatre
Elevating the voices of displaced women and survivors of gender based violence through transformative theatre practice.

LUNA is a theatre group bringing together women from all over the world, who have survived forced displacement and gender based violence and are seeking refuge in the UK. It is delivered by Feedback Theatre in partnership with MamaSuze and supported by the Old Diorama Arts Centre and New Diorama Theatre.
Our artistic process is based on co-creation and shared leadership to centre and elevate women’s voices, foster talent, realise potential and advocate for change through shared artistic endeavour.

"I think there's like a fire. You know, that's when we come together, when we interact, when we have different discussions. A fire is lit between us and something just wants to burn furious and bright for all to see." Luna participant 2024
The group decided how to define themselves, beside the labels imposed to them and created their own manifesto to guide the process:

"We are a group of diverse women. We are a foundation for each other to lean on. We are courageous, explorers, fierce, powerful, creative women. We are inclusive. We believe in raising our voices for the voiceless. We believe in unity and individuality. We believe women are dedicated, resilient, beautiful and loving. Women are leaders. We want to empower other women to be independent and free. To value and respect themselves. We want to feel our power and know our worth."
